Creative Critical Reflection

   1.  How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? My music video challenged the conventions of a regular Christmas music video since there was a huge difference in budget. Usually, Christmas music videos are extravagant and include scenes with high-budget items like cool presents, expensive cars, exaggerated Christmas trees, etc. For my music video, I chose to record in my neighborhood. I did this for two reasons, partially because I wanted to give the video that cozy feeling of just being in a conventional neighborhood, and partially because I didn't have the budget to make my music video the common excessive Christmas music video,       2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?   My product engages with the audience using many things. First, my music video is told as a love story where a girl had her heart broken and later was fixed by her true love. Many people l

My group and I have officially finished the second project of this class. I think as a whole, several improvements were made in different areas of filming and editing. I believe everything turned out very elegantly and 10x better than what my true expectations were. Out of the commercial and the music video that we just made, I think the music video came out way better and has more of an understandable story than the commercial did. It was a cute concept that made sense with the song Last Christmas by Wham!. This took quite some time to film as well and a lot more effort is presentably shown. Nonetheless, take a quick peek at the music video made by Lola, Sabrina, Michaela and I because I believe it has a chance of being better than the original;) -Sarah

We made it out!

Everything is officially completely and totally completed for this music video in relation to editing. We were able to finish off on a good note with our project. All of our brilliant minds put together really helped a lot in the long run. If it weren't for my group mates, it wouldn't have been this easy to do this project. It also surely would not have been as fun. Recording the music video was an experience, and to say the least it was pretty exciting. I had a great time with the people I was with since Lola and Sabrina are also my old middle school friends that I have known since the 7th grade. Before we filmed we also got Chick-Fil-A as a group and it was nice having that bonding moment before getting into all the technical stuff. We were able to talk about what we wanted to do and how we wanted our actors(Nate and Jackson) to play their role in our video. It was a necessary discussion that was bound to happen at some point. Therefore we had it beforehand so that we would w

Constructive Criticism

I walked into class thinking it would be a good idea to ask Ms. Marchionne for some feedback on our video. We still had a long way to go with editing and adding little things. But I assumed if we asked her for help maybe she could also give us ideas. I spoke with my group and told them what I thought we should do. They all agreed as a whole, so Lola and I went up to Ms. Marchionne and asked her if she could watch our video. She said she would watch it, so I pulled it up on my phone to show it to her. I handed her my phone so that she could watch it and analyze it well. Lola and I were standing next to her watching her reaction to each part of the video. From the looks of it, it seemed as though she was enjoying the video but we were not too sure. She then told us she thought it was really cute. She really liked our story idea and thought the video came out really well. One of the main things we still need to fix is the timing on our video since it is still at 1 minute and 30 seconds. W

Halfway there!

As my group was filming, we were also editing all at the same time. We would cut some of the clips to also be able to match the music perfectly. This helped us know in the moment exactly what we needed to keep recording to put in the video. One of the main reasons we took so long to film was because of the multi-tasking we did. Our official editing is still being worked on. Cuts still need to be made to be under the time limit for our video. This whole time I thought the video was supposed to be 1 minute and 30 seconds, but I just found out it is supposed to be 1 minute and 15 seconds. Because of this, some extra editing needs to be done in order to make things perfect. Michaela has helped a lot in this case since she was unable to make it on filming day. She has been working extremely diligently with the rest of us to figure things out and how we can make each clip better. Lola worked on transitions and then put the clips in order. This is a big part because if the clips are not organ

Special secret ideas...shhhhhh!

Filming was quite the tough task, and our little ideas we came up with all took some thought and extra effort to put in. First off, we needed to take time and head to Michael's to grab the props we needed. One idea was with the heart we used in the video, we had to creatively find a way to make it. I thought of using Styrofoam, Sabrina thought of using glitter construction paper, and Lola helped with taping and cutting the foam up. I first helped Lola trace the heart onto the Styrofoam and then her and I began to cut through the traced lines so we could get the shape of the heart. This wasn't very hard and it overall turned out super cute making our whole group happy with the result. Then, while in Michael's we thought it would be a good idea to buy some glitter as well to spark up one of the scenes we filmed. The closing scene we had Sabrina pouring glitter over the camera, as if it was raining glitter, all while I held my phone to record and was walking backwards at the s

Film day!

I was finally able to see my group and film the video with them. It took almost 3 hours to be able to get every scene right with the other actors we had with us(Jackson and Nate) but we made it possible and finally finished it. It was really tough because at first Lola and I were confused on how to be able to time the music right when connecting the different clips, but her and I came up with the bright idea of while shooting each scene, to play the specific part of the song in the background. This was extensively helpful throughout the whole music video. I was not in the video much, only for a few simple scenes. My other group mates Lola and Sabrina were mostly in almost the whole video. Michaela was unfortunately not able to join us with this filming session either, because she had work to attend to at the time we filmed after school. It was important for us to get it done, because otherwise the time left to film would be really scrunched up since all of us were busy on the whole wee
